About Brambles Glass

About Brambles

Brambles is the studio of Bethan Clarke, a glass artist working from Vallis Farm in Frome, Somerset.

A woman with short blonde hair wearing a white shirt stands in an art gallery or studio with framed artwork and decorative items on shelves and walls behind her.

The studio works across stained glass panels (both traditional leaded panels to copper foiling), hanging pieces and interior lighting.

A small range of ready-made pieces and jewellery can be found in the shop or at local markets. No glass get wasted.

Larger panels are made to order, while smaller pieces are released in limited numbers as they are finished. Everything is designed and made by Bethan herself.

The work began with a lifelong love of glass. "Growing up, my dad's house was full of it, and I've always loved how it changes the way you see the world when you look through it, especially when you’re looking out into a garden."

That idea sits at the centre of everything Bethan makes, each piece drawn from nature, the shapes and colours of the seasons.

Why Brambles?

“The name Brambles is close to my heart, it was the name of my nana’s house where I spent a lot of my childhood, including a short time living there in my early 20s.

My nana was one of my main supporters of pursuing a creative life and career and I couldn’t think of a more fitting name for my very own creative business ‘Brambles’."

Bespoke Commissions

Bespoke work is the heart of the studio. Most commissions start with a conversation, then move through sketches and into a beautiful, handcrafted one-off piece.

Panels, hanging pieces, and lighting. Bethan works with homeowners and interior designers, and takes a limited number of commissions each year, by enquiry only.

Workshops

Bethan runs glass-making workshops from the studio at Vallis Farm. Spend a day learning to cut, foil and solder, and leave with a finished piece of your own making. No experience needed.

Workshops are kept small, and gift cards are available for anyone who'd like to give a day at the bench.

Studio Visits

The studio at Vallis Farm is open by appointment for anyone who would like to see the work in person, talk through an idea for a commission, or simply watch how the glass itself is made.

Get in touch whenever you would like to arrange a visit to come by.

A NOTE FROM BETHAN

“I started Brambles because I have never stopped finding the ancient craft of glass a little bit magic. The way light moves through it, the way a window can quietly or dramatically change a whole room.

If you have something in mind, a window, an empty corner, or a half-formed idea you cannot quite shake, then I would love to hear about it.”
